Economic Sufficiency

Our Objective:
Reduce the percentage of disconnected youth* ages 16-24 living in St. Lucie County with a focus on cencus tracts with at least 25% of individuals who are below 100% of the poverty level by 5% by December of 2022.
  • Youth ages 16-24 who are not employed, in school, or in the labor force.

Why Addressing Disconnected Youth Matters?
4.6 million youth in the U.S. (2016) ages 16-24 are disconnected. These youth often have concurrent problems including criminal behavior, mental health problems, drug abuse and early pregnancy (before age 22). These young people cost taxpayers $93 billion annually and $1.6 trillion over their lifeteimes in lost revenues and increased social services.
